Bruce is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a licensed Mental Health Counselor, and a National Certified Counselor. He brings an easygoing, nonjudgemental and caring demeanor to the therapy process that promotes genuine connection and growth. Bruce strives to engage with clients and uses their strengths to learn how to be present, deepen relationships, cultivate intrapersonal balance and improve their ability to be intimately connected to others around them.
Bruce approaches the counseling process as a collaborative effort, working with individuals, couples and families to uncover stuck points and work towards challenging each towards growth and awareness. His counseling approach is to arrive intentionally to each session, consistently monitoring the needs and emotional connection as he guides the healing journey.
Bruce earned his dual Master’s Degrees at Indiana Wesleyan University in both Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. He graduated with high honors while working as a case manager at a local community mental health center. During this educational process, Bruce was awarded a research assistantship where he worked alongside the department head of the counseling clinic to create a comprehensive review of the psychology of Human Trafficking. Bruce earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy at Taylor' University with academic scholarships. He graduated summa cum laude while being a scholar athlete.
Prior to working at Healing Journey’s Center, Bruce worked at community mental health in case management with adults struggling with co-occurring disorders. He then worked as an outpatient therapist providing therapy for child, adolescent, couples and family therapy. Bruce has received training in Theraplay, Play Therapy, Non-medicated ADHD treatment, Gottman Couple Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychological First Aid, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Substance Use Disorders, Wraparound Services, Crisis Prevention and Response, Human Trafficking and Transition Age-Youth.
Bruce utilizes an integrated counseling philosophy using the strategies he has been trained. Bruce has experience working with children (ages 3 and up), adolescents and adults. He enjoys working with children on the high end of the Autism spectrum. Bruce’s Marriage and Family Therapy degree has prepared him to effectively work with family and couples to repair damage, promote relational satisfaction, and strengthen the family unit. Bruce’s experience has equipped him to work with a wide array of mental health concerns including PTSD and mood disorders. His approach to people in recovery is through internal family systems and attachment models, lending to greater understanding and impact in the recovery journey. Bruce is eager to meet the people behind the masks that we have been trained to wear to promote sincere connection where authentic growth can occur.
